Certificates of authenticity for original art sold on Shopify
When someone buys an original artwork, the artist can give them a clear record of the work they have acquired. A certificate belongs alongside the care information and the artist’s note, so those details travel together.
Record the work precisely
Start with the issuing artist or studio, title, medium, dimensions, year and a reference that identifies the individual piece. If it belongs to an edition, distinguish the piece number from the total edition size. Only include information you can support. A signature identifies the issuer; it does not turn an app-generated document into independent authentication.
An example record
For a fictional work: Studio name: Rowan Studio. Title: Coast Study 04. Medium: oil on linen. Dimensions: 40 × 50 cm. Year: 2026. Studio reference: RS-2026-004. Edition: unique work. Issued by: the artist. Replace every detail with the actual work’s information. Keep your own record of the reference and any changes.
Connect the certificate to the piece
Put the work’s reference on the printed certificate and keep the corresponding digital link with your order records. A QR card in the parcel can bring the buyer back to their customer kit. Include care advice appropriate to that specific medium and finish, and a way to contact the studio about repairs or a damaged certificate.
Use it in your Shopify workflow
In Digital Unboxing & COA Kit, enter your maker name, select an eligible product and open the customer preview. Check the piece details, numbered certificate, care instructions and note. Each eligible physical unit receives its own kit. Review the result before choosing how to send it. Your studio remains the certificate issuer.
